Lairy Mathis

Lairy Mathis Sr. was born on April 21, 1952 in Camilla, Ga to Ora Lee Mathis and Smith Mathis. 

Mr. Mathis attended schools in Albany, Ga before receiving a trade in Carpentry. Known as a jack of all trades and master of some, Lairy was experienced as a firefighter, electrician, plumber and appliance technician. Lairy was proficient at providing wisdom as a Son, Brother, Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Uncle. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Dothan, Alabama. 

Lairy Mathis died unexpectedly on August 24, 2022 at the age of 70 at his home. Mr. Mathis was preceded in death by his parents Ora and Smith, siblings Patricia Mathis, Jessie Barney, Johnny Mathis, son Tyler Mathis, and grandson Cayson Johnson. 

Lairy is survived by his wife Doretha, children: Felicia Mathis, Kimberly Barber, Robin Mathis, Lairy Mathis Jr, Lavosky Johnson, Jonathan Mathis, Carolyn Mathis, and Kelvin Mathis grandchildren: Desoré, Demetria (Patrick), Diamond, De’Varian, Dyshanique, Nahariyya, Rhykeria, Zachardius, Lairy III, Lamareon, Lamarcus, Mariah, Lavosha, Asiaona, Lavosky, Tymeshionna, Andricus, Blessine, Azariah, Hydia, Reginald, Kane, Gabrielle, and great grandchildren: Zariah, Patrionna, Patrielle, Patrick Jr., and Paisley.

His siblings Annette Mathis, Donnell Mathis (Essierine), Edward Murray (Penny), Debra Mathis, Cuttes Mathis (Cheryl), John Mathis, Donna Gardener (Charles), Ronny Mathis will never forget their brother “Goat”. 

Lairy leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and close friends. His legacy will live on through generations to come.

The celebration of life service will be held Thursday September 1,2022 at 11 A.M.  at Renaissance Cultural Arts Center , 950 N Maple St, Albany, GA 31705. Burial will follow in the Bright Morning Star Church Cemetery.
