Lieutenant Colonel James “Dung” Bush (ret) was born in Saigon, Vietnam on March 19, 1971 and transitioned from this life on July 26, 2022 at the age of 51. He was widely loved and adored; his spirit and passion for life was contagious. He will be remembered for his kindness to others and his constant drive to give back to those in need.
He participated in the ROTC program and matriculated at Albany State University where he received a bachelor’s degree and a commission as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. Lieutenant Colonel Bush was a devoted life member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
Lieutenant Colonel Bush served in the Army for 20 years, including in Iraq and Afghanistan. As a result of his valiant efforts throughout his military service, he was awarded the following commendations: Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal (3 Awards) Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Global war on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal and the Army Achievement Medal.
Leaving to protect his amazing legacy are his parents, Reverend James Bush and Phung Thi (Kim) Bush; his siblings, Johnny (Charlene) Bush, Derrick (Felita) Bush, and La Sherri (Demetrius) Bush-Holley; his nephews, Donterris Bush, Jalen Bush, Brandon Bush, Caden Bush, and Daschle Holley; his nieces, Brianna Carter, Ayana Bush, Ashlei Bush, and Laila Holley; in addition to a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, neighbors, and more loved ones than we can count.
His Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, August 6, 2022 at 11:00 AM at the Greater 2nd Mount Olive Baptist Church. Masks are required at the church. He will be laid to rest on Monday, August 8, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Andersonville National Cemetery, Andersonville, Georgia.
