Willinda LaVern Lyons, affectionately known as Auntie Lin, peacefully transitioned on February 27, 2026, at her home. Born to the late George Lyons, Sr. and Edell Edwards Lyons on July 14, 1956, in Albany, Georgia. Willinda will be remembered for her feisty and joyful spirit and loving heart by everyone who ever encountered her on any given day. She possessed a passion for reading, with a particular affinity for dictionaries and encyclopedias, as she explored unusual words not used in everyday contexts, accurately pronouncing them, and sharing their meanings as well.
At an early age, Willinda accepted Christ as her personal Savior and began her spiritual journey at Greater Second Mt. Olive Baptist Church and later united with New Saint Stephens Baptist Church then later in life joining Apostolic Revival Church. Willinda could be heard in her last hours calling out to Jesus and once answering when told that he hears you Auntie she then replies “I sure hope so”.
The public schools of Dougherty County were where she received her education. Willinda was employed by Bob Candies Company and other various jobs throughout her lifetime.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Cassandra; sisters, Pearlie Mae Atkins and Rosetta Jones; brothers, Thomas 'TJ' Lewis and Jimmie Lyons; sister-in-law, Hildred Lyons; and brother-in-law, Lucious Jones.
She leaves to cherish her memories her three sons: Demetrick L. Lyons, Derrick A. Lyons Sr., and Cornelius T. Lyons. Grandchildren: Eleazar Lyons, Derrick Lyons Jr., and Arrianna Lyons. Great-grandchildren: Kamar Lyons, Amerion Lyons, and Onyx Smith. Two brothers: George Lyons (Hildred, deceased) and Earnest Atkins, both of Albany, Georgia; two sisters: Eva Lyons and Willie Mae Greene, all of Albany, Georgia. And a host of nieces and nephews, family, and many sorrowing friends whom she loved and adored. A devoted set of caregivers from Regency Southern Care Hospice: Marisol Martinez, Tiffany Johnson, and Jennifer Jagielski.
